EatalyGelateria Artigianale

Gelateria artigianale, Kathmandu

A momentof sweetness.

Artisan gelato churned each morning from Italian recipes and fresh Himalayan milk. Six flavours, a small batch, and a cart that comes to you.

Un momento di dolcezza. Small batch, fresh daily.

The Eataly gelato cart: navy canopy lettered EATALY in gold, a menu board, stacked cups, six open tubs of gelato on a steel counter, a navy cabinet with gold scrollwork and brass-spoked wheels

Made with passion

Pure ingredients, and the patience to let them speak.

Gelato has less air and less fat than ice cream, so there is nowhere for a weak ingredient to hide. We like it that way.

  • Small batch

Every flavour is churned in a single five-litre batch. When a tub is gone, the next one is already in the freezer, not on a truck.

  • Fresh daily

The base is made before sunrise and served the same day. Gelato is at its best within hours of leaving the machine, so that is when you get it.

  • Pure ingredients

Italian strawberries, Alphonso mango, fine couverture chocolate, and whole milk from Himalayan dairies. No colourings, no flavourings, no shortcuts.

From the Alps to the Himalaya.

Strawberry and blackcurrant, held up to Machapuchare on a clear October morning.

Our story

From Italy to the Himalaya.

Gelato was born in the kitchens of Florence, where cooks learned to freeze milk slowly and churn in as little air as possible. The result is denser than ice cream, served warmer, and melts on the tongue instead of chilling it.

We brought that method to Kathmandu, then went looking for the one thing Italy could not send us: milk. Himalayan dairies work at an altitude where the grass is sweet and the cows walk a great deal, and that shows up in the cup as a fior di latte with a flavour of its own.

Everything else we are stubborn about. Fruit is fruit, chocolate is couverture, and if a flavour cannot be made properly this week it does not go in the case.

In detail

Drawn first, then built.

Every part of the cart was drawn before it was built, from the hem of the canopy to the number of spokes in a wheel. Touch a point to see why it is there.
